Ayoze Perez’s place in Newcastle United’s team could come under threat next season if Rafael Benitez gets his wish.

The Chronicle have reported how Benitez has made signing a new number 10 his top priority in the summer transfer window.

And if Newcastle do go through with the signing of an attacking midfielder, then Perez could well lose his place.

Benitez is a massive fan of Perez, but it is fair to say that he hasn’t offered enough this term.

While Perez’s work-rate earns him many admirers, the Spaniard simply hasn’t been productive enough at the top end of the field to guarantee his starting place.

Perez has played 28 Premier League matches for Newcastle this season, but he has only scored twice and claimed three assists.

And if Benitez does sign up a new number 10, then Perez could be struggling to keep hold of his place in Newcastle’s team next term.
