Mohammed Salisu could complete his £11 million move to Southampton this week according to Real Valladolid director Miguel Angel Gomez, speaking to Radio Marca Valladolid, translated by Pucela Fichajes.
It seems only a matter of time before one of the most exciting young centre-halves in Europe is being unveiled at St Mary’s.
Salisu only made his La Liga debut back in August but, after just 11 months of first-team football, 20-year-old Ghanaian looks set to be rewarded with a move to England.
The Mail reports that Southampton have triggered the £11 million release clause in his contract, with Salisu lured to the South Coast by the prospect of regular first-team football.
AS, meanwhile, claims that he will sign a four-year deal worth £35,000-a-week.
“Everything points to the fact that the signing of Salisu will become official this week. Everything points to yes,” says Gomez.
The sporting director does add, however, that not everything has been agreed just yet, though Salisu is expected to become ‘the largest transfer in the history’ of Real Valladolid sooner rather than later.
Speaking to FootMercato this week, Rennes president Nicolas Holveck admitted defeat in his attempts to beat Southampton to the youngster’s signature, accepting that Salisu will be plying his trade in Britain rather than Brittany.
