Speaking on the 90Min YouTube channel, Jamie Carragher has picked Gabriel Jesus as this season’s potential surprise package.
The Brazilian joined Arsenal from Manchester City earlier this summer, and Carragher thinks that his new role as the Gunners’ main attacking focal point will see him shine.
Jesus got off to a great start with his performance against Crystal Palace last week, and the pundit thinks that he could be one of the stars of this season.
What’s been said?
Carragher responded when asked to name his surprise package of this season.
“Gabriel Jesus will be really good. I know he’s come from City, but he was always a backup player, but being the main man, and he is a good player isn’t he? He gets goals, he works hard, he just looks fresh and hungry,” Carragher said.
Could shock a few
Carragher thinks that Jesus could be the surprise package in the Premier League this season, and we’re inclined to agree.
For far too long, the Brazilian has been shoehorned into a backup role at Manchester City, forced to play out wide or even as a false nine, but now, he can play in his natural role as a centre-forward, and he should thrive.
He didn’t score against Palace last week, but his all-around performance was just a sign of things to come from the attacker, and with the amount of chances Arsenal create, there’s no reason why Jesus shouldn’t be targeting 20 goals this season.
Arsenal look ready to make a real impact in the Premier League this term, and Jesus will play a massive part in that.
