Norwich fans have taken to Twitter to react after Ben Godfrey left them to join Everton on deadline day.

The Toffees have handed Daniel Farke’s side a club-record sum for the centre-back.

It is worth an initial £25 million, eclipsing the £20 million plus £4 million in add-ons they received when selling James Maddison to Leicester, as the BBC report.

Godfrey has penned a five-year contract with the Toffees, and his transfer could potentially rise to £30 million if add-ons are met.

He becomes Everton’s fifth signing of the window after James Rodriguez, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Niels Nkounkou.

Godfrey spent four years at Carrow Road after joining Norwich from York City in 2016 for just £150,000 according to the BBC.

The 22-year-old made 30 Premier League appearances last season as Norwich were relegated, although he clearly didn’t let himself down despite the Canaries’ ultimate woes.

Ancelotti was keen to sign a new centre-back after injuries to Jarrad Branthwaite and Mason Holgate.

In Godfrey – who has represented England at Under-20 and Under-21 level – Everton have a brilliant prospect who represents a fantastic long-term investment given his vast potential.

Ancelotti’s side currently sit at the top of the Premier League after winning all four of their games so far.
