Tammy Abraham was a key player for Aston Villa during their promotion to the Premier League as the club have replaced the Chelsea man with Club Brugge hitman, Wesley Moraes.
Regardless of whether Tammy Abraham plays for Aston Villa again, he will forever be remembered in a fond manner by the supporters for the part he played in their return to the Premier League.
The Chelsea man will now be hoping to make a name for himself at Stamford Bridge, where he has been impressing in pre-season, with Frank Lampard in charge of the London club.
Following Abraham’s return to Chelsea, Dean Smith needed a fresh pair of legs in the attacking third as they opted to break their club-record for Club Brugge striker Wesley Moraes [Guardian].
The Brazilian is seemingly a replacement for Abraham. There’s no doubt that Villa fans and Smith would have wanted the £25 million rated man to return to the club [Mirror], but a big opportunity was awaiting him at his parent club, who are under a transfer embargo.
The last time Abraham played in the Premier League, he scored five goals for then-relegated Swansea, but he has improved since then.
He’ll get his chance to prove his worth ahead of the new campaign, just like Wesley will at Villa, but who will score the most goals?
It will be ironic if Wesley does outperform Abraham ahead of the new campaign because had the Chelsea man re-signed for the club, especially for the £25 million fee reported, then Wesley might not be wearing a Claret and Blue shirt.
Wesley does have an advantage over Abraham in the fact that there is more pressure at Chelsea and a couple of poor performances could see him dropped to the bench for an Olivier Giroud or Michy Batshuayi.
Whereas, there will be more patience with Wesley at Villa Park because the Midlands outfit are a newly-promoted side, who would be more than happy with a 10th-placed finish. The same cannot be said about Lampard and his players.
