Aston Villa looked set to wrap up a £2 million deal for Swansea City’s Leroy Fer [The Birmingham Mail], only for the move to break down over concerns of a lingering hamstring injury.
The Dutch winger only played once for Swans since the botched transfer, so maybe the Villans were right to pull the plug.
But if Fer can get over his injury woes, could Smith go back in for him?
The 29-year-old is now available for free after being released by the Welsh club and it might be worth looking into another move, fitness permitting.
Villa might be a Premier League team in eight days if they beat Derby County in the playoff final on May 27, but Fer has 123 top-flight games under his belt, and 16 goals.
It’s a decent bit of experience and regardless of what division Smith’s side are in, another look at the former QPR star should be considered.
