Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking at Brentford star Ollie Watkins, who was on the books of Leeds United and Aston Villa in the summer of 2017.

Ollie Watkins of Brentford looks on during the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Arsenal and Brentford at Emirates Stadium on September 26, 2018 in London, England.

Ollie Watkins is one of the best players in the Championship, and there is no surprise that Leeds United and Aston Villa (reportedly) wanted the attacker before he moved to Brentford from Exeter City in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The London Evening Standard to be worth £1.8 million.

The 22-year-old, who can operate as a forward or an attacking midfielder, scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 39 Championship starts for Brentford last season, according to WhoScored.

So far this campaign, the youngster has made 14 starts and one substitute appearance for the Bees in the Championship, scoring six goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Watkins’s form in the Championship has been so good that Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be interested in the attacker.

The Daily Mail reported in October that Tottenham scouts have been closely monitoring the Brentford youngster, with Sky Sports claiming earlier this month that Brentford want more than £20 million for the 22-year-old.

Sky Sports have also reported of Burnley’s interest in Watkins, who can only get better in the coming years.

Spurs’ reported interest in Watkins means that Leeds United and Aston Villa’s chances of signing the Englishman may have been gone.

Back in July 2017, Get West London claimed that Leeds, Villa and Forest all had expressed in signing Watkins before he made the move from Exeter to Brentford.

With Premier League duo Tottenham and Burnley now reportedly looking at Watkins, it is hard to see how Championship duo Leeds and Villa would be able to convince him to move to Elland Road or Villa Park anytime soon.

Villa and Leeds should have taken the chance to sign Watkins when they had, and especially for just £1.8m.
