Liverpool signed the left-back in the summer only for a teammate to experience quite the renaissance.

For much of last season Liverpool played James Milner as a makeshift left-back, so it was no surprise when the Reds bought a player more naturally suited to that position, in the form of Andrew Robertson, for an initial £8million (BBC).
Unfortunately for the former Hull City man, it was about the same time that Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno decided he was going to start playing to his full potential, leaving Robertson to twiddle his thumbs on the side-lines while the previously poor Spaniard transformed into one of the Reds’ most impressive players.

At 23, Robertson will know he has years ahead of him and it is far too early to write him off. That said, his Liverpool teammate Moreno is only 25 and if he continues on his current trajectory he could be keeping the Scotland international out of the starting line-up for years to come.
It remains to be seen how long Robertson would be prepared to bide his time as the second-choice left-back at a club that relied on a midfielder last season. However it is fair to say that two league appearances and seven omissions from the match-day squad already is not the start he would have wanted.

The issue for Robertson is that his arrival appears to have kick-started Moreno’s own Liverpool career and, while that is great news for manager Jurgen Klopp, it leaves the younger of the two wit a major battle on his hands.
From left-back saviour to bit-part player in a matter of months, a penny would be well worth a glimpse into Robertson’s thoughts right now.
