According to a recent report from the Chronicle, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is keen to use his connections with Liverpool to try and bring Andrew Robertson in on loan during the January transfer window.

It has been a torrid time for the Magpies lately, with eight defeats in nine leaving the newly-promoted side in the relegation places in the Premier League – thus, making January an absolutely vital month for the club as they try to ensure their survival.

The Chronicle reports that Benitez is hoping to use his good relationship with the Reds to try and land three of their players: Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Robertson.

With the two strikers struggling for game-time, perhaps it may not be out of the question to suggest that Jurgen Klopp may be tempted to consider letting either head to St James’ Park, but in the case of Robertson, perhaps it would be fair to suggest that the transfer window has perhaps come one month too late for Newcastle.

Heading into December, Robertson had made just two Premier League appearances for Liverpool following his £10 million move from Hull City (via BBC Sport) – and none since the end of September.

However, since the start of the month, the left-back has been a regular for Klopp, making four appearances and looking like the player that the club hoped they were signing when they completed a deal in the summer, especially in the win over Bournemouth at the weekend when the 23-year-old was exceptional.

With Robertson proving his worth to Liverpool this month, it seems highly unlikely that Newcastle will have much luck if they do make a move in January – but if the window had been open during this month instead, perhaps it would have been a different story had they acted incredibly quickly.
