The Leeds United defender is yet to make his first-team breakthrough but he has a fresh start with a new man at the helm.
Of all the Leeds United players eager to impress new manager Thomas Christiansen, few fans would be expected to name Amadou Haidara.
After all, not many Whites supporters even remember that the French centre-back is at the club given his bizarre, unannounced arrival and subsequent time with the under-23 side.
If it was not for the Frenchman’s own social media postings, we would not even know he was a Leeds player. But he is, and having seemingly been retained for at least another season, Haidara will no doubt be hoping to make the step up after failing to impress former boss Garry Monk.
Haidara arrived at Leeds last summer in a move that literally and metaphorically went under the radar. It was not until he started turning out for the Whites’ second string that his name was even mentioned on the club’s official website and he has a long way to go before he is turning out for the senior side.
That said, Leeds are short of centre-backs right now, with Pontus Jansson on an extended break and Giuseppe Bellusci currently regarded as an option – at least for the upcoming friendlies – alongside Liam Cooper.
With Jack Vann recently released, Haidara and fellow defender Paul McKay could both be eyeing the chance to impress their new boss.
Could the strangest of transfer stories have an even more bizarre ending, with Haidara playing his way into Christiansen’s good books?
Probably not, but it will be interesting to find out.
