The Everton winger has been linked with the exit but if the Dutchman is replaced surely that will not happen.

According to the Sun, Arsenal are planning a January raid for Everton’s Ademola Lookman, but surely any replacement for Toffees boss Ronald Koeman will surely stamp out that possibility from the outset.

The England under-21 international has fallen out of favour under the Dutchman, barely featuring despite Everton’s need for additional pace in wide areas.

Lookman would be the ideal outlet, easing the pressure on the likes of Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson, with neither blessed with pace at this stage of their respective careers. And yet time and again the former Charlton Athletic player has been deemed surplus to requirements, having to make do with a few outings in the cup competitions.

Even then he has played a bit-part role, but if Koeman is shown the door in the next few weeks, one of his replacement’s first tasks should be to rule out any potential move for Lookman, restoring him to the first-team fold in the process.

Lookman scored on his Everton debut against Manchester City last season and, after some outstanding performances for England’s under-20 side on their way to World Cup success, he was tipped to be a major player for the Toffees this time out.

Instead he has barely featured, and while Koeman is clinging on to his job for now, a few more defeats in October could be his undoing.

If that happens, his successor will have a decision to make regarding Lookman, and if he knows what the teenager is capable of he should put his arm around him, reassure him about the future and put rumours of a swift exit to bed.
