Chelsea take on Arsenal on Saturday evening in the Premier League.
Ray Wilkins
Former Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins was speaking live on Sky Sports Now this morning at 10:04 am, and discussed the problems that Diego Costa could cause Arsenal this weekend.
The former Atletico Madrid marksman has looked more like his former self this season, after struggling for form last term under Jose Mourinho.
Wilkins told Sky Sports how Costa’s playing style, although unique in the modern game, would have been viewed as entirely normal back in the day.
When asked how horrible Costa would have been to play against, the former Chelsea man responded:
Chelsea’s Diego Costa in action
“I think he would be pretty normal back in the day to be honest, because a lot of centre-forwards used to put themselves around. I love to see Diego Costa rough up a few centre-halves. I think he would be difficult to play against, but they (Arsenal) have to stand up to him, they have to give him as good as he gives them.”
Recent fixtures between the two clubs have seen the Gunners’ dominated by Chelsea’s physical prowess, and Costa has been a major contributing factor to the Blues’ dominance.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa
Arsene Wenger’s men have won just one of their last five clashes against Chelsea – that coming in the Community Shield in 2015.
The outcome of the game is likely to have a huge psychological baring on both side’s, and with Chelsea in the midst of a two-game winless streak in the Premier League, they will be desperate for maximum points at the Emirates tomorrow.
