Ray Wilkins criticised Liverpool-owned West Bromwich Albion striker Daniel Sturridge on the Premier League Daily show on Sky Sports Premier League on Monday morning (10:40am, March 26, 2018) for getting injured far too often.

The former Rangers and Queens Park Rangers midfielder said: “What has he played? 74 minutes since he has been on loan at West Brom. That’s nowhere nearly as the amount of games he should have been playing.

“I know he has got a hamstring injury, but these guys are very, very fit human beings now. He should be a lot fitter and not be getting these injuries that he is picking up, but he has certainly got the quality.”

Strange remarks

The aforementioned comments from former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Wilkins are quite harsh.

After all, Sturridge cannot help when he gets injured and when he is not fit. Some footballers are more injury-prone than others, and that’s how things are.

Back in training

Sturridge, who joined West Brom on loan from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the January transfer window, has played just 78 minutes in the league for the Baggies so far due to injury, according to WhoScored.

The England international striker, though, has returned to training with West Brom physios, according to The Daily Mail, as the former Manchester City and Chelsea man steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

West Brom are in serious danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
