Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto demands the Elland Road outfit show character ‘from now on’. The Italian also feels they can ‘beat anybody’ after drawing at Manchester United.

The Whites drew 2-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night having led 2-0. Gnonto (1’) and a Raphael Varane own goal (48’) gave the managerless Leeds the lead. But Marcus Rashford (62’) and Jadon Sancho (70’) drew Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United level to share a point.

Leeds have now failed to win their past eight Premier League games since taking a 4-3 win against AFC Bournemouth. Their results since November 5 ultimately cost Jesse Marsch his job on Monday. No team took fewer points (3) between their Cherries win and his sacking.

A point at Old Trafford was enough to move Leeds up to 16th in the table after 21 fixtures. The clash marked the Whites’ game in hand over West Ham United (17th), Everton (18th), Bournemouth (19th) and Southampton (20th). But only four points separate that quintet.

Caretaker Leeds boss Michael Skubala may now have to oversee a second game in charge against Manchester United. The Red Devils travel to Elland Road on Sunday in the reverse of Wednesday’s encounter. A win at the weekend can move the Whites up to 14th place.

Gnonto shares the one thing Leeds must replicate from facing Manchester United

Leeds have a hard and vital run of Premier League games while fighting to avoid relegation to the Championship. Following the visit of third-place Manchester United on Sunday, they then visit Everton (Feb 18), host Southampton (Feb 25) and also visit Chelsea (March 11).

But Gnonto believes Leeds can take the positives out of their display at Manchester United on Wednesday. He also did not feel Skubala sought to make too many changes in how the Whites played at Old Trafford. But Gnonto adds they must show the same character again.

“When we go into a game, we try to do our best,” Gnonto stated, via quotes by BBC Sport. “Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t think we did something differently.

“Today was a positive game. We showed we have character. From now on, we try to show our character. We can beat anybody.”
