Sheffield United fans have been given the news they’ve been waiting for today, as manager Chris Wilder has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.

The Blades enjoyed a strong first season back in the Championship, and Wilder was a huge reason for that, guiding his side to a top half finish, just six points off the play-offs.

United have been concerned in recent weeks though, given speculation surrounding the future of manager Wilder, but he has ended that with a new three-year contract.

Wilder has not only committed his future to his boyhood club, but the Sheffield Star also report that he has been promised a bigger transfer budget to work with this summer.

Phil Jagielka of Everton during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at Wembley Stadium on January 13, 2018 in London, England.

United fans will now be wondering just who Wilder will pursue with his new funds, and now may even be the time to try and bring Everton’s Phil Jagielka back to the club.

Just last summer, Wilder was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying that he would love to welcome Jagielka back to Bramall Lane, but felt he was still a Premier League player.

Now, things have somewhat changed. Jagielka started just 23 of the 38 Premier League games this season, and Everton continue to be linked with a host of centre backs to potentially replace him in the heart of the Toffees defence.

At almost 36, Jagielka’s days as a regular in the Premier League may be coming to an end, and returning to play for Sheffield United – the club he left back in 2007 after making nearly 300 appearances – could be appealing, and Wilder may now have the funds to launch an appealing offer to the centre back.
