Newcastle are reportedly eyeing Liverpool midfielder Georgino Wijnaldum.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in completing a sensational move that would see Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum return to St. James’ Park, and his move would be one half of an excellent bit of business.
The 27-year-old midfielder moved to Liverpool back in the summer of 2016 after a season with Newcastle, where he scored 11 goals and turned provider five times in 40 league and cup appearances during 2015-16.
Liverpool have recently signed Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Fabinho from AS Monaco, pushing Netherlands international Wijnaldum down the pecking order.
It has since seen Turkish outlet Takvim claim that Newcastle have made an offer for their former midfielder, with Superlig giants Fenerbahce also keen on landing the box-to-box midfielder.
Newcastle are likely to be in the market for a new midfielder after selling Mikel Merino, who has returned to Spain just a year after joining Newcastle from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
He has signed a five-year deal with Real Sociedad after plummeting out of the Newcastle side following a back injury over the Christmas period. Mo Diame stole his place in the side alongside Jonjo Shelvey.

Wijnaldum has shown during his two years at Liverpool that he is arguably one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League, able to help Liverpool out defensively but also capable of finding the back of the net.
Indeed, he is twice the player of Merino and landing him as a replacement for the Spaniard would be an excellent bit of business by Newcastle.
It remains to be seen if owner Mike Ashley will fund a deal, which is likely to be an expensive one due to Wijnaldum having three years left on his contract worth £90,000 a week (Daily Star). But if signed, he would be an excellent replacement for Merino and take Newcastle to the next level.
