The Wigan Athletic manager spent five years of his playing career at West Bromwich Albion’s local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wigan Athletic’s Paul Cook is the newest name on Paddy Power’s list of contenders for the West Bromwich Albion manager’s job.

Cook is now 6/1 fourth favourite to succeed Alan Pardew at the Hawthorns, despite being absent from the running at lunchtime on Tuesday.

The Liverpudlian boss – who spent five years of his playing career at West Brom’s local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers – is on course to win his second promotion in as many seasons, after leading Portsmouth to the League Two title last term.

And although Cook has never before managed above the third tier, his promotion-winning expertise – he also led Chesterfield into League One four years ago – would make the 51-year-old a logical choice for the Baggies, whose relegation from the Premier League is all but confirmed.
