There has not been too much laughter to be had at Ewood Park of late. Thank god, then, for the club’s witty-minded social media guru.

A word of warning: it is never a good idea to troll a former Premier League champion and accuse them of lacking silverware. Especially when you’re Wigan Athletic.

The FA Cup and Championship aside, the 1967 Northern Floodlit League title is hardly something to get haughty about.

Therefore, when Wigan’s official Twitter account posted this shameful skulduggery, Blackburn Rovers were hardly rushing to apply some cream to that most shocking of burns. Instead, they responded. They responded quite magnificently.

Now, we’re not suggesting for a second that light-hearted Twitter teasing is going to raise hopes for a season dogged by disappointing results and even worse performances, underpinned by fury at the appointment of former Burnley and Bolton boss Owen Coyle (below) and ongoing protests against the club’s poultry-rearing owners.

But, for the first time in a long time, Blackburn have given their fans something to smile about. A little shot of pride to brighten a gloomy Friday.

And, with the international break meaning Rovers still have a week to wait before their side does battle with Ipswich Town, Blackburn fans can now embark on a relatively stress-free weekend. We said relatively.
