Latics supporters took to Twitter to express their concerns as their team slipped to a 2-1 reverse at Carrow Road.

Wigan’s spirited second-half performance was not enough to earn them a result from their tough away match at Norwich, with Gary Caldwell’s side paying the price for a dreadful start.

The Latics fell behind after just three minutes after a goalkeeping howler from Adam Bogdan. The former Bolton man took too long to make a clearance and was dispossessed by Jacob Murphy, who slotted into an empty net.

It got worse for the visitors soon after, with Murphy converting a close range rebound after Bogdan had kept out the original effort.

Norwich could have been out of sight by half time, but a combination of decent saves from the goalkeeper and wayward finishing from the home attack kept Wigan in the game.

The second half was much brighter for the Lancashire outfit, who got themselves back into it through Jordi Gomez’s precise low strike from outside the area.

Will Grigg came close to finding a dramatic equaliser for the visitors, but Michael McGovern made a fine save to deny the frontman his sixth goal of the season.

Due to the nature of the first goal, Adam Bogdan came under fire from Wigan fans following the match on Twitter, several of whom called for a return to the starting XI for Jussi Jaaskelainen.

There was also debate on social media about the system and principles that young manager Gary Caldwell currently has in place at the DW Stadium.

Roberto Martinez was a notable advocate of playing out from the back during his spell in the Wigan dugout – which also led to some comical goals being conceded – and Caldwell seems cut from the same cloth, which has divided opinion amongst fans.

Not all Latics fans were so quick to question the manager, however.

The defeat left Wigan second bottom in the Championship, above only Blackburn Rovers – against whom the Latics claimed their only league win so far this season. While it remains far too early in the season for panic to set in, Wigan could do with a positive result and performance when they welcome Fulham on Saturday to bring some of last season’s confidence back to the team and fans.
