Leeds earned a 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon.
Wigan Athletic chairman David Sharpe has replied to a Leeds United fan on Twitter after Sunday’s clash between the two sides, stating that the Whites deserve to be back in the Premier League.
Leeds earned a narrow 2-1 win over Paul Cook’s Wigan at the DW Stadium, coming from behind to win after Reece James had put Wigan in front. Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe scored either side of half-time.
The match is likely to be Sharpe’s last match as Wigan chairman, after taking over from his grandfather Dave Whelan in 2015. Indeed, Sharpe will resign when a Hong Kong-based International Entertainment Corporation take over next week.
One Leeds fan praised Whelan and Sharpe for their work after years of calamitous ownership at Elland Road, and Sharpe replied by stating Leeds deserved their win – and a place in the Premier League.
James scored early on from a free-kick, which seemed to split the wall and catch goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell unaware. But Leeds replied just three minutes later, with Hernandez tapping home after great work from Mateusz Klich.
Roofe capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Christopher Walton to score what is likely to be the easiest goal of his career. His seventh of the season sends Leeds back to the top of the Championship table on goal difference.
