Wigan Athletic are facing up to the prospect of relegation after a dispiriting loss to Ipswich Town.

The match was a chance for Wigan to haul Ipswich into the relegation battle but instead went down 3-0 to Mick McCarthy’s side.

Having chopped and changed managers, there is nowhere for the players to hide, and defender Stephen Warnock is accepting his performance was simply not good enough.

Taking to Twitter the veteran said he was embarrassed by his display and offered an apology to supporters.

Wigan found themselves up against it last night after going 2-0 down within the first 30 minutes.

Warnock was substituted after 75 minutes of his below par display, but he was by no means the only Wigan player to fail to produce.
