The wife of Lazio striker Vedat Muriqi has admitted that she was “never satisfied” in Rome – amid reports that Leeds want to sign the forward. However, she also says that she would like to return to Istanbul.
Muriqi, 27, is likely to be on the market this month after a disappointing stint with the Serie A side. Joining the club in the summer of 2020 from Fenerbahce, Muriqi has only scored two goals in 48 games.
Of those 48, 36 have been from the bench. It has seen Muriqi unable to replicate the form he showed while at Fener – in which he scored 17 goals and laid on seven assists in 36 games. He has a contract until 2025.
According to LaLazioSiamoNoi, Leeds are interested in signing the Kosovo international – but another report from A Spor claim the Fener are closing in on the loan return. His wife says that she is not happy in Rome.
“I was never satisfied in Rome. Of course, I’d like to go back to Istanbul,” Muriqi’s wife said, as quoted by the Laziali. “Whose mind would I like to read? Ali Koç’s, the Fenerbahce president.”
Muriqi not settled at Lazio, but he is far from ideal for Leeds
Leeds need a striker, no doubt about it. Joe Gelhardt, Tyler Roberts and Patrick Bamford were all missing through injury on Sunday, during a 2-0 defeat to West Ham in the FA Cup. Sam Greenwood started.
Now, the ex-Arsenal star is also injured. While Bamford and Rodrigo are expected to be fit for this weekend’s clash – once again, against the Hammers – they still require a striker, one to cover Bamford.
But Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds require a striker that starts the press, the first line of defence. Muriqi is more of a target man, a player that is better getting on the end of crosses – a plan B. He simply does not suit Leeds.
