With just three races left in the season, McLaren’s drivers shouldn’t be overly concerned about a late title push from Max Verstappen.
There was a time when it looked like he might actually pull off the impossible and get back into the race. But after a couple of shaky weekends, things have shifted.
Lando Norris has been steady throughout, and fully deserves his spot at the top right now. But both he and McLaren know there’s still work to be done before they can feel comfortable.
Piastri has struggled more than most recently. He needs a strong finish soon and he could find himself out of the running before long.
Norris has managed to stay clear of those issues this season and is in pole position to claim his first title. We’ll soon see if he can finish the job.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri get ‘only way’ advice from Zak Brown against Max Verstappen
Gabriel Bortoleto sees why McLaren may favour Norris and thinks that it’s logical, given how much longer he has been at the team.
Being involved in the battle at the end of 2024 has been helpful, with Norris finding the 2025 title fight ‘easier’ due to his experience.

But team boss Zak Brown has given his drivers some advice about battling the formidable Verstappen, which is perfect, given their situation.
He has reminded his drivers that they can only ‘beat themselves’ in the fight against Red Bull, given their advantage heading into the final few rounds.
What’s next for Max Verstappen in 2025?
With three races left in the season, McLaren’s drivers shouldn’t have to be overly concerned about a title push from Verstappen.
It wasn’t long ago that a remarkable championship comeback felt possible. But after a couple of uneven weekends from Verstappen, things have started to shift.
Lando Norris has been steady throughout and deserves his place at the front, but neither he nor McLaren can afford to relax just yet.
Oscar Piastri has lost more ground than anyone else lately and is now playing catch-up. He needs a strong finish soon if he wants to stay in contention.
Mark Webber must help guide Piastri through this difficult stretch and keep him in the fight until Abu Dhabi.
Norris, meanwhile, has managed to avoid similar setbacks and is now in the strongest position. We’ll soon find out if he can close it out.
