Aston Villa have been linked with Bahoken since January 2018 – but is he heading to Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers instead?

Stephane Bahoken could be on his way to the Midlands at last. But, in a surprise twist, Wolverhampton Wanderers could be his destination rather than Aston Villa.

According to L’Equipe, Wolves are set to hold talks with the Angers striker as he aims to fire Cameroon to glory in the African Cup of Nations. A meeting looks set to take place in Egypt over the coming days.

And you can imagine that this won’t go down too well a few miles down the road in Birmingham. After all, Aston Villa have been linked with Bahoken not just this summer but the last one too.

The Mirror (28 May, page 68) reported that Aston Villa were keen on the £8.5 million centre-forward – and not for the first time.

Bahoken first emerged as a target in January 2018, when Sport.Sfr claimed that Villa wanted him on loan. RMC, meanwhile, stated in May that the Midland giants had offered him a contract when he left Strasbourg, only for the one-time St Mirren striker to choose Angers instead.

But with Aston Villa seemingly putting all their energy into signing a new centre-back, Wolves appear to have snuck in at the front of the queue for a big-game forward who scored a career-best 11 Ligue 1 goals last season.
