Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly targeting the Newcastle United forward.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle is on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ radar ahead of the January transfer window, but the Championship leaders surely have no chance of bringing the forward to Molineux.
After all, Newcastle are struggling this season and selling one of the only players in their squad capable of finding the net on a regular basis would be tantamount to footballing suicide.
The Magpies have failed to win any of their last six matches and have fallen to 15th in the Premier League table in the process, so they should be strengthening not weakening their squad at the turn of the year.
Gayle has proved his worth with goals away to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks and, if he can start finding the net against the teams directly around Newcastle in the table, he could make all the difference in their potential fight against relegation.
Recently citing the importance of Gayle’s pace in a Newcastle side otherwise lacking in that area up front, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is clearly going to keep hold of the 27-year-old just when he needs him the most.
The alternative could be selling him to a club that could swap places with Newcastle next season unless they turn things around sooner rather than later.
