Why West Ham would be mad to pay Arsenal £20m for Wilshere

Arsenal tell West Ham it will cost them £20m if they want to sign Jack Wilshere.

An exclusive report from the Daily Star claims that Arsenal have told West Ham United it will cost them £20m if they want to sign Jack Wilshere this summer.

Not only that, but the Gunners want a buy-back clause written into the deal so that they have first refusal on the midfielder should they decide to re-sign him.

This comes after Sampdoria made an offer of £6m plus £1.5m in add-ons, but clearly the North Londoners value Wilshere at much higher than that.

This is despite the fact that the club have made no move to enter contract negotiations with the 25-year-old, even though he has now entered the final year of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium – which should, in theory, lower his price.

This is just one of the reasons why the Hammers should pay nowhere near the £20m asking price, another being Wilshere is currently sidelined with a broken leg that he suffered in April.

That is just the latest in a long list of fitness problems that the England international has had throughout his career, which has limited him to just 160 Arsenal appearances since breaking into first team in 2008.

Last season Wilshere was on loan at Bournemouth, but the Dorset club have made no attempt to make that a permanent move after indifferent form from the Englishman – another reason that he is not worth the fee being quoted.
