West Ham were keen on signing Andre Gomes until the Barcelona midfielder picked up a hamstring injury.

Andre Gomes may not leave Barcelona during the current transfer window after all with Goal reporting a hamstring injury has cast the midfielder’s exit into doubt.

Gomes picked up the muscular problem during Barca’s International Champions Cup match with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (July 28) and now potentially faces two months on the sidelines.

This will come as a blow to West Ham United, with the 25-year-old having been on manager Manuel Pellegrini’s shortlist of possible new signings in midfield – as outlined by the Mirror.

However, this news will see the Hammers shelve those plans until at least January, with them turning their attention to Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater as a result.

Arsenal had also been linked with Gomes, who has struggled to settle at the Camp Nou after joining the reigning La Liga champions from Valencia two years ago.

Yet it seems the Portugal international may have to wait a little longer to get his move away from Catalonia and whether West Ham will still be interested in six months time remains to be seen.
