West Ham United fans love to hate Millwall so they would take an instant shine to this potential new signing from Manchester United for good reason.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic
The Hammers have been linked with a host of top strikers this summer including the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Carlos Bacca and Christian Benteke.
But they are also believed to be on the verge of signing Manchester United prospect Ashley Fletcher after he rejected a new contract at Old Trafford, as reported by the likes of the Manchester Evening News.
Ashley Fletcher celebrates
With Jose Mourinho having signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial already an established star and Marcus Rashford’s emergence Fletcher has decided to leave Old Trafford and reports claim he will join Slaven Bilic’s side for their first season at the 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium.
While his signing would be a free transfer, because Fletcher is only 20, the Red Devils will be entitled to compensation from the Hammers.
The towering forward’s reputation won’t be the only thing that endears him to Hammers fans should he sign, though.
Ashley Fletcher knows where the net is
Fletcher would be a hit with Hammers fans
That’s because he enjoyed a superb spell on loan at League One Barnsley last season, scoring nine goals in 27 appearances including one after two minutes of the League One play-off final victory over West Ham’s hated rivals Millwall.
As any football fan worth their salt knows, there is no love lost between the Hammers and Millwall in what is one of the oldest and fiercest rivalries on the planet.
Paul Pogba
Manchester United youth policy in focus
The focus is very much on Manchester United’s youth policy at the moment given the rise of Rashford, arrival of Mourinho and the club’s reported interest in re-signing Paul Pogba from Juventus for £100million – despite losing him for less than £1m four years ago.
He might have scored the goal that kept Millwall and West Ham two divisions apart, but whether he will go on to display the kind of talent Pogba has for Juve and France remains to be seen.
