“I think we have a squad with a lot of players,” Puel is quoted by the newspaper as saying.
“We need to reduce the squad because we need to give game-time for some players and keep all the time a good mentality and positive attitude… after (the festive period) we will see if some players leave the club.”
Two Premier League clubs who should think about making a move for Okazaki in January are West Ham and Everton.
The Hammers have been rocked by Marko Arnautovic’s absence through injury, while Javier Hernandez, skilled as he is, isn’t particularly suited at playing up front on his own.
A grafter and hard worker, Okazaki can play both as part of a strike duo, as evidenced by his previous partnership with Jamie Vardy, or as a lone striker, giving Manuel Pellegrini a versatile, experienced option up front.
Likewise, the Toffees have not really got the most out of Richarlison in the lone frontman position, while Cenk Tosun is out of form, hence the Blue Samurai star could surely do a job for them too.
With 125 appearances for Leicester under his belt and a Premier League winners’ medal in his collection, Okazaki is valued by Transfermarkt at a modest six million Euros (around £5.5million), so surely he is worth a gamble.
