West Bromwich Albion had been maintaining an interest in one of Leeds’ biggest stars.
A report in The Telegraph back in October suggested that West Bromwich Albion were planning to make a £4m bid for Leeds star Charlie Taylor during the January transfer window. And while the left-back’s departure from Elland Road seems almost inevitable, recent developments at the Hawthorns perhaps suggest that the Whites may now stand a slightly better chance of holding onto him until the end of the season.
Despite an incredibly quiet summer, Tony Pulis recently confirmed his desire to focus on signing quality during the winter window, and thus, it is highly possible that they will look to make just one or two additions to their squad (via Express and Star).

Taylor’s form of late has been incredibly impressive, and he certainly looks destined for the Premier League sooner rather than later – his contract expires at the end of the season and he has rejected a new one (via Telegraph) – but some Baggies supporters may question whether another full-back should be on their radar if Pulis is targeting such a small number of signings.
Allan Nyom has impressed since his summer switch, and the Daily Mail has reported this week that West Brom plan to open talks with Chris Brunt over a new deal as a reward for his excellent form since his return from injury.

Although the Northern Irishman has predominantly featured in midfield since coming back, he has frequently been deployed on the left-hand side of the defence in the past, so there is no reason why he cannot provide the cover to Nyom that will allow Pulis to focus his attention on strengthening other areas.
If that proves to be the case, it may be slightly easier for Leeds to keep hold of Taylor beyond the January window. And while it is fair to say that he previously had no interest in a new deal, Whites fans may hope that his stance may possibly change if Monk’s men capitalise on their excellent start to the season and secure promotion to the top flight themselves.
