Why Wenger has no choice other than to let Campbell leave Arsenal

Joel Campbell is reportedly fed up with his situation at Arsenal.

The Mirror has claimed that Joel Campbell is ready to turn his back on Arsenal.

The talented Costa Rican impressed at Olympiakos last season, played well at the World Cup but he hasn’t had anything like the chance he would have been hoping for at the Gunners, as he’s grown frustrated with life at the Emirates.

“Campbell has left his team mates and management in no doubt that he is fed-up and angry with the latest snubs,” reports the Mirror.

“Campbell has a short fuse and has grown impatient and is desperate to play which could mean moving on.”

So what can Wenger do to pacify him?

In short, nothing. He might not have any choice other than to sell him.

Campbell has already done the loan routine, which is something he would more than likely reject if Wenger chose to have that conversation with him over the next two months.

That creates the likeliness of a permanent exit and a number of sides could get their hands on a very good player.

What Campbell wants is first team game time, which he’s not going to get at Arsenal under the current system used by Wenger.

The Frenchman likes to play with one striker up front, packing the midfield with the best part of his squad; the central midfielders.

You won’t see Wenger playing 4-4-2 to accommodate Campbell any time soon.

The only way for him to get into the side is to adapt his role as a striker and try to fit into another position.

If he wants to play as a striker he has two problems; Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud.

Wenger showed his hand in terms of Campbell’s ability in that role earlier in the season when Alexis Sanchez was used as a centre forward before Welbeck was signed for £16 million from Manchester United.

He can throw his toys out of the pram if he wants, but it’s not going to change the fact he’s not going to break into an already talented Arsenal attack and the Gunners can cash in, getting a good fee for him this January or next summer if nothing changes.
