In what will be a vital few weeks for the club’s season, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce doesn’t need to be careful in the transfer window.
Following their big spending spree in the summer, many Aston Villa fans are in two minds when it comes to what they should do in the January transfer window. Some people think that they should continue to spend big, meanwhile others feel they should be more conservative with their money.
Which ever camp you fall into, it can’t be denied that this is going to be a vital few weeks in the career of Steve Bruce. Despite some good results since taking over at Villa Park, the 56-year-old has been criticised for the unexciting style of play that the Villains are judged to have been engineering in recent weeks.

Regardless, they are indeed carving out results even if the consistency isn’t quite there – which is why they need the quality to accompany it. For example players like Ashley Westwood is a perfectly competent in the middle of the park for Villa, without really pushing the standards required in the Championship. They need a leader that will take the game by the scruff of the neck and Bruce should be prepared to spend big for that.

Meanwhile throughout the other areas of the pitch, a winger, another central midfielder, a right back and a striker will likely be on the shopping list with not much time to bring that many players in. But if they have a winger who can really run at defences in addition to a midfield that are willing to create more and go forward, the possibilities for this side could be endless.
The manager needs to forget about what everyone says regarding how outrageous money in football has become, and instead choose to steer into the skid.
