Villa signing Nick Powell relies on Jack Grealish being sold so not bringing in the Wigan midfielder could be a positive thing.

Aston Villa are interested in signing Wigan Athletic’s Nick Powell and according to the Sun have contacted the newly promoted Championship club about making that happen.

It’s thought it would cost around £5million to complete a deal for Powell, who could be tempted by a move away having entered the final year of his current contract with the Latics.

Yet any move for the midfielder will reportedly depend on whether Jack Grealish is sold this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur currently leading the race for the 22-year-old’s signature.

With Villa having financial problems, Spurs think they can land Grealish for just £20million, but the Birmingham club are holding out for much more than that.

While former Manchester United man Powell has impressed for Wigan, not signing the 24-year-old and keeping hold of Grealish is surely the more preferable option for the Villans?

After all, the England Under-21 international emerged as a key player for manager Steve Bruce last season as the club reached the playoff final and could help fire them to another promotion push this time around.

So while Powell would be an attractive prospect, not signing the midfield ace could actually be more positive than bringing him to Villa Park.
