Tottenham Hotspur’s team in their final Champions League game seemed extremely odd given their circumstances.
It’s no secret that Tottenham Hotspur have had a tough time of things in Europe so far this season. Whether it was the pressure of Wembley or the squad just not being prepared, their Champions League failures saw them get eliminated from qualifying for the knockout stages ahead of the last matchday.
So the question remains as to why they put out an extremely strong team in the final game against CSKA Moscow at Wembley. Given they were already out of contention, it seems as if it would have made sense to rest players in order to fully prepare for the Premier League.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane
Many people are saying it was done in order to secure their spot in Europa League, but with that competition guaranteeing a more hectic schedule it seems a tad confusing.
Alot of Spurs supporters were extremely bewildered and frustrated upon the revelation of the starting XI, and with a push for the top four coming up the importance of competing in Europe’s secondary club competition does get called in question.
An even stranger note was that Tottenham’s lineup for the match against the Russian side was closer to full strength than they put out in their must win game away to Monaco.
Perhaps they wanted to put on a good display for the many people attending at Wembley, but one way or another the move will be questioned for weeks to come.
