Tottenham’s search for a new striker could see the club return to January target Emmanuel Emenike, who is likely to be seeking a move away from Turkey
Mauricio Pochettino may already be in possession of the Premier League’s joint top-scorer in Harry Kane but the potential availability of Fenerbahce forward Emmanuel Emenike, at a possible cut-price fee, will be music to the ears of the Argentine.
A reported Tottenham Hotspur target back in January according to The Metro and The Express, the powerful Nigerian striker looks likely to seek a move away from Turkey this summer.
It comes after Emenike was involved in an incident during the Istanbul club’s 1-0 victory over local rivals Besiktas.
Booed by his own supporters after a sub-par showing early on, the 27-year-old striker removed his shirt, mid-match, and demanded to be substituted.
With the game yet to even reach half-time, Fenerbahce manager Ismail Kartal refused to grant the forward his request.
Emenike subsequently completed the half, before being taken off at the break, but the incident could spell the end of his time at the club.
Long-linked with a move to Tottenham and valued at anywhere between £8 million and £15 million depending on what sources you believe, the Nigerian is enduring a season to forget in Turkey.
In 19 league appearances so far this term, Emenike has managed just four goals and provided a further two assists.
Despite this return, the target man striker possesses a solid overall record that has included spells with Karabukspor and Spartak Moscow, among others.
Capable of playing as either an out-and-out striker or in one of the wide attacking positions, Emenike is also an excellent dribbler and has a keen eye for a pass.
Named top scorer at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, the 27-year-old was also part of the Super Eagles squad that advanced to the second round of the World Cup in Brazil.
Likely to be available at a reduced price following his recent woes, Tottenham could do worse than return to this former target.
