Tottenham Hotspur had wanted to sign Everton’s Ross Barkley, but have been quoted £50 million for the midfielder.
With Everton searching for £50 million for Ross Barkley, Tottenham Hotspur should switch their attention to bringing back Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Everton have slapped a huge asking price on Barkley, which gives him very little value for money.
Of course, Barkley is a massive talent – and at Spurs he could have thrived under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino.
But to pay £50 million for a player who isn’t yet the finished article, is a risk too far for Tottenham.
And Spurs should now walk away from Barkely, to pursue their interest in other targets.
For half the price, Tottenham could land Sigurdsson this summer (Telegraph), and that surely looks like a far better deal.
Sigurdsson has already spent one spell with Spurs, which didn’t go according to plan.
But the Iceland international was regularly played out of position then, and he may have a point to prove if he was to move back.
Sigurdsson has claimed more goals and assists than Barkley this season, and at this stage he is a superior player to Everton’s creator.
And, following Pochettino’s comments that Sigurdsson would be perfect for his current Spurs side (The Guardian), it surely now makes a lot of sense for the Lilywhites to step up their chase of the Swansea man.
