The Tottenham Hotspur left-back has again been linked with Manchester City but why on earth would he move?

Tottenham's Danny Rose warms up before the match

According to a recent report from the Mirror, Manchester City are confident of signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose this summer, with a £50million bid in the offing.

But here is the thing: Tottenham are not going to bow down and send one of their key players to a direct rival, whatever the price.

In the past, if Tottenham received a sizeable offer for one of their players you could bet chairman Daniel Levy would take it. But Mauricio Pochettino’s side is a different beast now, and while City may have the money, Spurs have a different type of currency – a very bright future.

Tottenham are no longer the also-rans of the Premier League. They are Chelsea’s closest challengers this season, with a squad full of talent and a handful of teenagers who should take White Hart Lane by storm in the next few years.

If Tottenham sign a quality winger and an effective second-choice striker this summer, they could have the strongest squad in the country, so why on earth would Rose want to leave all that behind?

Levy will know his side is on the cusp of something great, and that will only become a reality if he keeps his best players at the club.

That is why he has signed them all to long-term contracts and why even for £50million City are surely wasting their time.

Tottenham fans are not worried about these transfer rumours anymore; they are amused by them. And that tells you everything you need to know about how far they have come, and how far they are destined to go.
