The Dutch forward recently signed for Tottenham Hotspur.
In a recent interview with Talk Sport, broadcast on Monday 8 August from 8:00pm, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy questioned the signing of new Spurs striker Vincent Janssen.
Here at HITC we ran an article on his comments, during which he said, “There’s no guarantee this guy can come over here and pull up trees. It’s a risk, a signing that has potential. I think they need to do more.”
But we did not go into detail as to why his comments hold little weight and why Tottenham fans would be wise to simply ignore them.
After all, wasn’t throwing a teenage midfielder with no experience of the top two tiers of English football into a Premier League title chase a risk? And look how that turned out for Dele Alli.
Wasn’t selecting a young Eric Dier as a holding midfielder a risk? And he ended up exceeding all expectations and joining Alli in England’s Euro 2016 squad despite featuring the previous season as a defender.
Isn’t showing faith in untried youth a risk? And look how Cameron Carter-Vickers and Marcus Edwards have repaid Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s faith this summer.
The simple fact is every signing is a risk. There is no rule that dictates the right signing or the wrong one. Only time will tell if a manager gets it right.
But with Pochettino he is getting it right more often than not, and pundits should realise their crystal balls are as useless as everyone else’s and their speculation regarding hits and misses is just that…speculation.
We should have faith in Pochettino and in his signings; after all, he has proved canny so far and Janssen has all the attributes to excel at White Hart Lane.
