Tottenham Hotspur are said to have scouted the Argentine international but they do not need him.

According to the Mirror’s live blog (23/08/2017 at 7:36am) Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking Valencia defender Ezequiel Garay, but the simple fact is Spurs do not need him.

The 30-year-old has long been linked with a move to England and has racked up more column inches than most over the years without ever actually completing a move to these shores. And while Tottenham have allegedly been keeping a close eye, one wonders if there is any truth in the claims.

After all, Spurs have the best centre-back pairing in the Premier League in the form of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, and both are around Garay’s age.

What Tottenham need are up-and-coming defenders to slot in when necessary in the short-term before becoming long-term successors to the experienced pair.

That is exactly why they have spent big money to sign Davinson Sanchez from Ajax, and when you consider the presence of Eric Dier and Cameron Carter-Vickers in north London, a move for Garay is unnecessary.

The experienced international would not come cheap, with his contract at Valencia running until the summer of 2020 and his importance to the team still vital, as his 27 La Liga appearances last season testify.

Garay is not your typical Tottenham signing, and Sanchez’s arrival means chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to throw a curve ball with just a few days of the transfer window remaining.

Spurs need a striker, a winger and a new right-back, so forget about Garay. It is not going to happen.
