Tottenham Hotspur are in a strong position to sign target Giovani Lo Celso this summer.

The Real Betis midfielder is a priority target for Spurs, with Sky Sports reporting his club are looking for £70 million.

Reports in [via El Desmarque] have linked Lo Celso with Tottenham’s competitors Manchester United.

It is here where Spurs have an edge, and its not just the Champions League football and more stable situation they can offer.

Lo Celso is good friends with Angel di Maria, his former PSG and current Argentina teammate, who he said he idolised as a teenager.

He told Marca: “When I arrived in Paris, (Di Maria) welcomed me in a very good way, he helped me and accompanied me at every moment . I do not think that I have time to thank him for everything. what he did for me. I could not believe he was sharing moments with my idol , whom I only saw on television.”

It is Di Maria’s unhappy stint at Manchester United which could put Lo Celso off a move.

Arriving as a £59.7 million signing, Di Maria failed to settle off the pitch, and this affected his performances on it. He fled back to Paris after just one year.

The duo are currently on international duty together and this could give Tottenham an edge. It would be a surprise if Di Maria encouraged Lo Celso to follow his path to Manchester.
