The Arsenal legend will not want the finally memory of him in a Gunners shirt to be the mauling in Milan.
Three goals was not a bad return for Thierry Henry’s Arsenal renaissance.
One of those goals may even still prove priceless in the battle for fourth place, when May arrives.
The winner against Sunderland should have been the dream way to sign-off, just like his FA Cup winner against Leeds was the perfect way to re-announce his arrival.
So a trip to the San Siro was supposed to be the icing on the cake.
It must pain Henry that despite doing everything he could, Arsenal are now in a worse position after he left, than when he arrived.
Perhaps right now he is better off out of it, but the Arsenal team could do with his experience and leadership, just as their season appears to be collapsing.
But there is no way Henry will want his Arsenal career to end on such a low.
He is the captain of the New York Red Bulls, so has responsibilities to the club which pays his wages first and foremost.
Yet, he, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan all had successful loans from the MLS to the Premier League, and it is likely to become more common place.
Despite the calls for Wenger’s head, he is likely still to be here next year, and after seeing the effect Henry had, winning two matches through his goals, the manager will be picking up his phone to call Henry on January 1st 2013.
How can we be sure we are right?
Well we called it before.
On December 12 we published this article ‘Will Thierry Henry rejoin Arsenal‘ – which preceded him signing a short term contract at the club on January 6.
He will be back. Thierry himself has said he would find an invite back, ‘impossible to resist’ and it almost seemed that he surprised himself that he could fit so seamlessly back into the set up.
So while there may not be a lot for Arsenal fans to smile about right now, the prospect of King Henry returning next January has to again be worth looking forward to.
