There is an upside to Kemar Roofe’s latest injury for Leeds United.

As temperatures soar all across Europe, it’s difficult not to look on the bright side today and that’s exactly what Leeds United fans should be doing right now.

The Whites were rocked a little over an hour ago when it was announced that Kemar Roofe would miss four weeks with an injury suffered against Western Sydney Wanderers last week.

The bad news is it means that Leeds will be missing Roofe for the first few games of the season, and the Elland Road faithful will no doubt berate his absence. It’s understandable, given Roofe’s importance.

But the good news is that it’s NOT the same injury as last time.

Roofe missed close to eight weeks during the second half of last season with a knee injury. This time, it’s a ‘high ankle’ one, according to Leeds’ official statement.

Two knee injuries within months of each other would’ve been very worrying for United, Marcelo Bielsa and indeed the club’s fanbase, but the fact that they’re unconnected issues is the silver lining to an otherwise bad bit of news.

If the month-long prognosis is accurate, the former Oxford United star, who was Leeds’ top goalscorer last season, could miss the club’s first four Championship games – Bristol City [a], Nottingham Forest, Wigan [a] & Brentford – along with a League Cup clash at Salford City on August 13.
