TGL heralded a new era for golf in the eyes of many. However, with season two fast approaching, the league’s future remains uncertain.
Season two of TGL is just a few weeks away from starting up again. Atlanta Drive will begin their title defence by taking on New York City GC in the opening match.
Like last year, there should be plenty of buzz and hype going into the opener.
But that excitement may only last through the first night.
Areas where TGL needs to step up in season two

The effort behind launching TGL is clear, and the concept itself has its strengths. There is no denying it brought something new to the table.
But beyond that, there were issues with how it was put together and a lack of big-name presence that did not help matters.
Tiger’s absence is a big one for the league. There is no avoiding it – having him around would have drawn more interest. His presence always made things feel bigger.
Now that he is sidelined again, fans are left without one of the main reasons they tuned in.
The matches themselves also started to feel repetitive as 2024 went on. While changes like new hole designs and more use of green technology are expected for 2025, the format still risks becoming stale after just a few shots.
After another long PGA Tour season that saw Rory McIlroy hit new heights and Scottie Scheffler continue his strong form, it is fair to wonder if there is much appetite for another TGL season. And with Scheffler not involved at all this time, the event feels like it is missing something important from the start.
Why bringing in a LIV Golf or DP World Tour team could work for TGL
There is another issue facing TGL that has not really gone away. Just like with LIV Golf, it comes down to whether fans are actually invested in these teams or not.
One potential solution could be to fill a couple of spots with teams made up entirely of LIV, DP World, or Asian Tour players.
That approach would introduce some genuine rivalries and offer fans clear sides to support, similar to what makes the Ryder Cup so engaging.
And while it might be tough to get the top LIV names involved right now, imagine if they did. A line-up featuring Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson would instantly raise the profile and create real anticipation around match-ups.
As it stands, though, TGL still feels a bit flat – almost like a scaled-down digital version of LIV without the standout personalities driving interest.
