Francesco Guidolin was today sacked by Swansea City and replaced by American coach Bob Bradley but was it the right move?
Former Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin
Swansea City manager Franceso Guidonlin has been replaced by American coach Bob Bradley despite his side putting in another improved display on the weekend.
The Swans were narrowly defeated by Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon, making it four straight league defeats.
Despite the loss, Swansea again showed signs of improvement with a spirited showing against a classy Liverpool outfit who have shone so far this season. The home side even went ahead but run out of steam late-on and subsequently paid the price.
For the third game running, we’ve seen Swansea’s performance improve and Guidolin should have received credit and backing for that.
Unfortunately for him, the three improved performances have come against Manchester City (twice) and Liverpool so it hasn’t been enough but it should have been enough to earn him more time to put things right at the Liberty Stadium.
New Swansea boss Bob Bradley
The South Wales club looked good on Saturday and were credited for their first half performance from commentators and pundits alike after pressing Liverpool into a state of panic.
There were still lessons to learn from the defeat, no doubt, but Swansea will again feel they were unlucky to be beaten by one of the top teams in the league.
Bob Bradley now takes over at Swansea, tying in with the American owners’ identity but Swansea are crazy to sack Guidolin after what we’ve seen from the team during the last fortnight.
When a manager is under pressure, you look at how he deals with the situation and whether the team can improve.
Swansea City’s Jay Fulton heads at goal
Guidolin has managed to get his team competing against some very good teams in recent weeks, something no Swansea fan would have expected after a lacklustre performance at Southampton just a couple of weeks ago.
Swansea now have a boss who has never managed a single game in English football, let alone Premier League football and it feels like they’re starting over.
The South Wales club were steadily improving under Guidolin but to start again while already playing catch-up on teams above them is simply a bad idea.
Guidolin should have been given at least three more games to continue his improvement but Swansea have now pressed the panic button and take a big risk of going backwards under a new manager.
