Burnley manager Sean Dyche is an ideal candidate for the Sunderland job.
After Dick Advocaat turned down the chance to become the Black Cats manager on a permanent basis earlier this week, there are arguably few better options than the former Watford boss.
At Burnley, he achieved the unthinkable after winning automatic promotion to the Premier League with a points tally of 93, despite being considered relegation candidates at the beginning of the campaign.
The Premier League proved to be a step too far, however, and the ‘ginger Mourinho’ could not stop his side from getting relegated straight back to the Championship after just one season.
Nevertheless, relegation shouldn’t overshadow his achievements in Lancashire as he barely had the budget of a top-half Championship club and came close to avoiding the drop all the same.
Why Dyche is ideal for Sunderland
Sunderland’s current squad seems to fit a similar mould to the one Dyche had at Burnley, albeit just at a higher level.
The Black Cats have the players who fit in with his pragmatic style of play and the industry to ensure that relegation fears over the course of the season stay well away from their thinking.
Although the Kettering-born tactician may not be the best choice to build a new team, he certainly could do wonders with the players already in place.
He has a no-nonsense approach that demands respect and earns results.
