The ongoing transfer saga with West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino has been present for a few years now, and it seems as if the issue has received more focus than his performances on the pitch. There always seems to be rumours linking the 23-year-old with a move away from The Hawthorns, window after window.
As reported by The Telegraph, Stoke City are said to once again be interested in securing the young forward’s services. Manager Hughes has always seemed to be a fan of the striker, but looking towards his statistics, it may be hard for the Potters boss to justify his continued interest.

Back in the 2014-15 season, Berahino really started to hit a hot run of form, with 20 goals in 45 appearances throughout the entire campaign. However, in the two years before he only managed nine goals in 35 appearances and none from the five he’s made this season. Last year there were only four league goals scored in over 30 matches. His exile from importance at the Hawthorns won’t have helped, but it represents a big risk when suitors are considering paying big money and handing out lucrative contracts.

The Burundi born forward’s contributions away from goalscoring haven’t been of the highest quality either, leaving both fans and critics confused as to why Stoke would still be interested in him. Perhaps Hughes has a way in which to utilise his talents to the fullest potential, but Stoke supporters should be hoping he isn’t just hanging on to a previous option because it is convenient and because there aren’t many alternatives out there.
Either way, the media storm surrounding Berahino looks like rumbling on until he is given a chance to prove his talent on the pitch once again.
