While Aston Villa have made a successful start to life under Steve Bruce, fans aren’t exactly jumping for joy just yet.
Given that Aston Villa are right back in the hunt for the play-offs, it seems silly to suggest that Bruce’s start at Villa Park has been anything other than a resounding success. However, as we all know, a string of victories does not necessarily mean that the entire fanbase are overwhelmed with happiness.
Whilst the results are coming slowly but surely, Villa have a very uncertain feel about them. With their last three wins being narrow one-goal affairs against some of the poorest sides in the league, the actual quality of the performances they are putting in leaves a lot to be desired.

There’s no real grit or confidence behind the wins they are churning out. This isn’t considered a problem if you’re top of the table, but Villa still have a long way to go before they can get comfortable in the Championship. Bruce was considered a saviour by many but it’s been a tad underwhelming so far when you consider that they didn’t really show any fight in their defeats under the Birmingham boss.
Things are obviously a big improvement compared to where Villa were under Di Matteo, but it is too soon to shower too much praise on the Midlands outfit.

The quality is there and Villa technically have one of the most gifted squads in the entire league, which begs the question as to why it’s taking so long for them to gel. They may well be residing in the top 10, but now is the time for them to stretch their legs and show why they are more than capable of being a top flight team once again.
