Sheffield Wednesday signed Boyd’s old Burnley teammate David Jones a year ago.

Sky Sports reports that Burnley winger George Boyd will leave Turf Moor at the end of his contract this month.
And signing the 31-year-old is an opportunity which Sheffield Wednesday simply cannot afford to overlook if they are as intent as they claim to be on securing promotion next season.
Boyd’s position is one of several in need of strengthening ahead of the coming campaign, and with Middlesbrough due the first of their Jordan Rhodes payments this summer, the Owls could perhaps do without having to spend big in each.

As Carlos Carvalhal learned a year ago, centre-halves – of which Wednesday are expected to sign at least one – are especially pricey, and money saved on Boyd could be used there instead.
The Scotland international is said to be eyeing a three-year deal at his next club and that could deter potential suitors, which are said to include the Owls’ promotion rivals Derby County and Aston Villa – another tick in the pro column -according to the Birmingham Mail.

Boyd, however, is showing little sign of decline – he was a regular in Burnley’s recent Premier League campaign and, impressively for his age, was one of the division’s fittest players statistically.
And if Wednesday can hand three years to David Jones – who was the same age as Boyd at the time of his 2016 transfer from Burnley to Hillsborough – then doing likewise for his former Turf Moor teammate should be a no-brainer.
