Newcastle have already made numerous signings this summer, but Rafa Benitez is looking to strengthen his squad even further.
Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair in action against Newcastle United last season
Newcastle United head into the Championship season as the favourites to achieve promotion to the Premier League, and it is no wonder judging by some of the signings Toon boss Rafa Benitez has brought into the club.
With the Chronicle reporting that the Spaniard wants to bring another winger to St James’ Park, should Newcastle consider a move for Aston Villa’s pacey wide man Scott Sinclair?
Although the Magpies have already acquired a superb attacking midfielder in Matt Ritchie, they must still move to replace the genuine pace and ability to deliver a cross that they lost when Andros Townsend left for Crystal Palace.
Sinclair hasn’t lived up to high expectations
Scottish giants Celtic have already seen two bids for the 27-year-old rejected (Daily Mail), with he Hoops being told they must significantly improve their £2 million offer. Newcastle have got the funds to test Villa’s resolve and are certainly able to compete with the Scottish champions financially.
Sinclair’s youth career at Chelsea was accompanied by huge hype surrounding his abilities, but he has never really fulfilled his potential, with moves to a spate of different clubs over the last seven years depriving him of the chance to truly settle and establish himself somewhere.
Sinclair has spent time at five separate clubs in the last seven years
His ability is still unquestionable, however. He has a terrific burst of pace, which enables him to beat defenders, and has a unique style of cross, with a penetrating flight. He can play anywhere across the front-line and would provide Rafa with a different option to what he currently possesses in wide areas.
Whether or not Villa would sell to a Championship rival could be an issue, but with the Midlands outfit willing to do business at the right price, Newcastle should at least test their resolve with a firm offer.
If a move came to fruition, he would most certainly improve the Magpies squad, and In return he would have a platform to re-ignite his career and prove to everyone he is capable of living up to the hype that surrounded his younger years.
Scott Sinclair would be a fantastic addition to Newcastle
