Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that he wants to sign Sam Johnstone from Manchester United.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone should reject Premier League interest to stay with Aston Villa this summer.

Steve Bruce has already confirmed that Villa want to sign Johnstone in the summer to the claret and blues’ official Youtube channel.

However, The Sun claim that Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in taking Johnstone already.

Johnstone’s form at Villa has caught the eye, but the young stopper should avoid the temptation of chasing a top flight move.

At 24, Johnstone needs to be playing regular first-team football to fulfil his potential and he is clearly capable.

The custodian has been in superb form for Villa this season, during his loan spell from United.

It took Johnstone a while to settle at the Midlands club, but in recent weeks he has shown his quality.

The prospect now appears to be at the top of his game, and has built the foundations to be a key player for Villa next term.

If Johnstone was to move to a Premier League club, though, he would be back to square one.

Johnstone would have no guarantees of being a number one at a Premier League club, and he cannot afford to be a back-up choice yet again – otherwise he may as well stick with United.

As a result, Johnstone needs to take a step down the divisions to take a big leap forward with his career – and Villa has become the ideal destination for him.
